You know what’s the worst part?

Text
This breaks my heart. It’s so wrong, so goddamn cruel, so horrendously abusive. How can she not realize this?! What is wrong with her??!!?

Apparently, menopause.

A fat failure.

That doesn’t earn any money.

That really only knows how to spend money.

That’s my destiny.

1. Your skin may never be perfect, and that’s okay.

2. Life is too short not to have the underwear, the coffee, and the haircut you want.

3. Everyone (including your family, your coworkers, and your best friend) will talk about you behind your back, and you’ll talk about them too. It doesn’t mean you don’t love each other.

4. It’s okay to spend money on things that make you happy.

5. Sometimes without fault or reason, relationships deteriorate. It will happen when you’re six, it will happen when you’re sixty. That’s life.

I just heard about the whole fiasco with some 16 year old girl in Britain writing her first novel-that just happened to be the Faberry fic ‘SHAFD’.  I read an article by the author and one of the things her lawyer told her was to get the content registered.

Years ago I registered something with the actual copyright office, but I remember it being a royal pain in the ass.  Also, I’m not sure how you would copyright a story with other copyrighted characters in them (can you just say: hey this scenario is mine, etc?).

This is the registry service of the Writer’s Guild of America.  They are known mostly for registering screenplays, but you can do books-even a detailed synopsis.  Everything I’ve ever had to post online (contest, script hosting service, etc) had to be registered first.

So if you have that epic fanfic that you want to protect (because from the sound of it, the girl that stole SHAFD is planning on stealing ‘The Knife Thrower’s Daughter’ for her second novel), this is the way to do it.

Its not free.  Its $20.  But if you have one of those 100K+ fics, think of the time, energy and love you put into it.  Definitely worth $20 to protect it.
